Supervision

  • Assist with oversight of activities of direct reports
  • Conducts annual performance evaluations and provides feedback
  • Assists with interviewing of employees

Distribution and Transportation:

  • Assists with assuring accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment and specimens
  • Assists with assuring all laws and regulations are followed in the transportation of laboratory specimens
  • Assists with assuring all applicable staff attend defensive driving classes

Specimen Handling & Processing:

  • Assists with assuring all laboratory staff are properly trained regarding regulatory guidelines in handling/processing of laboratory specimens.
  • Assists with assuring all laboratory staff are properly trained in patient identification and labeling of all specimens

Communication:

  • Effectively communicate with all NMHS staff, patients, their family members and customers

Customer Service

  • Assists with assuring all direct reports are properly trained in AIDET and attend CARES training.
  • When necessary, assures proper service recovery is done for patients and/or caregivers.
  • Answers telephone in an polite and efficient manner

Employee Relations:

  • Works as part of a team with all Pathology and NMHS employees

Reporting/Recordkeeping:

  • Assists with assuring department testing, applicable to their area, is reported in an accurate and timely manner
  • Assists with monitoring and reporting of department Performance Improvement initiatives
  • Assists with assuring all appropriate documentation of all required instrument monthly maintenance and quality control

Education:

  • Coordinates training standards and schedules for all direct reports
  • Participates in continuing education programs to maintain and expand skills
  • Stays abreast of regulatory changes

Regulation :

  • Adheres to NMHS/NMMC Policies/Procedures/Guidelines
  • Complies with appropriate Local/State/Federal policies/procedures/guideline/regulations/laws/statues
  • Adheres to College of American Pathologist (CAP) & Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) standards

Job Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological Science or related field; required
  • ASCP Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, required
  • Minimum of 4 years laboratory experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist; required by College of American Pathologists (CAP) for supervisors of Blood Bank, Hematology, Chemistry, and Microbiology; preferred for other Medical Technologist, Supervisor positions
  • Valid Mississippi Driver’s License and acceptable driving record/history; preferred
  • Proficient computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel); required
  • Good organizational and communication (written and verbal) skills; required
  • Knowledge of and appropriate handling of biohazardous specimens; required
