The Technician - Turnover Team at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for transporting patients, specimens, and supplies, as well as assisting in maintaining a sterile and organized environment within the operating rooms. This position requires effective communication and coordination with physicians, nurses, and surgical team members, along with the ability to adapt to changing tasks and adhere to safety and aseptic techniques. Job Functions
Transporting Patients:
- Transports patients from nursing units to the holding preanesthesia unit ( PAU ).
- Assist the circulating nurse to transport patients from PAU to the O.R.
- Transports specimens to the lab and delivers blood products from the blood bank to the O.R. according to established policies and procedures.
- Transports sterilized trays, instruments and equipment to assigned OR rooms as needed.
- Inspecting sterile package integrity, storage conditions and equipment for possible damage that would decrease its ability to perform needed functions. Transports Potential Radioactive Supplies:
- Transports supplies and bio hazard trash to and from the appropriate area designed for radioactive contamination.
- Assists in cleaning assigned OR rooms during the turn over process.
- Mopping floor, and/or wiping down surgical bed, equipment, including trash removal.
- Assists OR team in preparing for surgical cases.
- Opens sterile supplies including disposables and surgical trays pertinent to OR procedure.
- Making O.R. bed.
- Positioning patient, holding extremities, setting up equipment to increase OR room utilization.
- Help limit traffic in and out of O.R. rooms to cut down potential contamination of sterile environment.
- Performs preoperative shave preps as needed, according to policy and procedure.
- Attends required in-services, annual review and educational programs /training.
- Adheres to NMHS/NMMC Policies/Procedures/Guidelines.
- Complies with applicable Local/State/Federal policies/procedures/guideline/regulations/laws/statues.
